Reports produced by an ABC system contain information, such as product margins, that vary from the information reported for a traditional cost method. It’s also possible that some activity-based costs may be irrelevant in certain decision-making scenarios; for example, ABC does not conform to accounting standards and should not be used for external reporting. Since traditional cost figures tend to be the norm, interpreting ABC data along with regular accounting information can be confusing and lead to bad decision-making. The use of software can streamline the process of maintaining an ABC system and simplify its integration with regular cost accounting information. (Eileen, nd.) Even for smaller businesses, the implementation of an activity-based costing system can be a substantial undertaking. The Chemistry of Theobromine

Theobromine belongs to a class of alkaloid molecules known as methylxanthines, which naturally occur in as many as 60 different plant species and include caffeine (the primary methylxanthine in coffee) and theophylline (the primary methylxanthine in tea). Theobromine is the primary methylxanthine found in products of the cocoa tree, theobroma cacao. Effects of Theobromine on Humans Theobromine affects humans similarly to caffeine, but on a much smaller scale. Theobromine is mildly diuretic (it increases urine production), is a mild stimulant, and relaxes the smooth muscles of the bronchi in the lungs. In the human body, theobromine levels are halved between 6-10 hours after consumption. Theobromine has been used as a drug for its diuretic effect, particularly in cases where cardiac failure has resulted in an accumulation of body fluid. It has been administered with digitalis in order to relieve dilatation. Because of its ability to dilate blood vessels, theobromine also has been used to treat high blood pressure. Dangers of Theobromine Cocoa and chocolate products may be toxic or lethal to dogs and other domestic animals such as horses because these animals metabolize theobromine more slowly than humans. The heart, central nervous system, and kidneys are affected. Early signs of theobromine poisoning in dogs include nausea and vomiting, restlessness, diarrhea, muscle tremors, and increased urination or incontinence. The treatment at this stage is to induce vomiting. Cardiac arrhythmias and seizures are symptoms of more advanced poisoning. Different types of chocolate contain different amounts of theobromine. In general, theobromine levels are higher in dark chocolates (approximately 10 g/kg) than in milk chocolates (1-5 g/kg). Higher quality chocolate tends to contain more theobromine than lower quality chocolate. Cocoa beans naturally contain approximately 300-1200 mg/ounce theobromine (note how variable this is!).

While terrorism has plagued the world through many forms since the age of time, it wasn’t until the hijacking of 1972 that caused airports both domestically and internationally to establish airport security. From one of the first major terrorist attacks on an aircraft in 1955 to the multiple attacks throughout the 1960s and 70s, for the first time airports were introduced to armed security guards, metal detectors, and explosive detection canines. Over the next two and half decades, airports also saw the use of U.S. Marshall’s aboard flights, and the installations of X-Ray machines for both carry-on and checked luggage. Weeks away from the thirteenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center towers, airports across the world are still continuing to operate with higher security levels with tighter security measures as the threat to jetliners remains constant. These changes have not been more apparent than in the United States. With the creation of the TSA in November 2001, one of their first changes to travel policy was for passengers to show up at least two hours early to ensure there was enough time for the newly reformed security measures. While carry-on luggage was sent through an x-ray machine and passengers through metal detectors, passengers and their luggage were randomly selected by security personnel for additional screening that included a physical search of the passengers’ carry-on luggage. Beginning around 1900, several key thinkers, artists and writers began to challenge traditional conventions as well as reject some of the major ideas of the Enlightenment, which was based on logic and reason. This new age of uncertainty began to challenge the core beliefs of the Enlightenment era. This new era came with exciting, unconventional ways of thinking and expression. Previous scientific beliefs were challenged by Sigmund Freud’s theories and previous ideologies of art were challenged by the various art movements of this era. Sigmund Freud was an Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis, which is a clinical method for treating psychopathology through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst (Fiero, pg.384.) He challenged the enlightenment theory that humans were superior beings and that everything was based on reason. He challenged this belief by mapping the geography of the human mind. He proposed a model that became basic to psychology. This model is know as the study of the mind and behavior. His model shows the human psyche consisting of three parts: the id, the ego and the superego. The id is the primitive and instinctive component of personality. It consists of all the inherited components of personality that is present at birth. This includes sex drive i.e., the libido. Many people throughout the world look at homeless people negatively, and that is some thing they do not deserve. People automatically assume homeless people are dirty, uneducated, and dangerous, but this is not always true. Many homeless people are war veterans and need help to get their life back on track, but they are too scared and hated to seek it. The stereotypes associated with homeless people make many people shy away from helping them and that is one of the reasons why they are really suffering. I chose homelessness as my topic because it is an issue that should be addressed and examined more carefully. People treat homeless people unfairly because of the stereotypes associated with them and choose to ignore them instead of helping them. A homeless person is one who lacks a permanent place to live. This person is therefore forced to live on the streets, in abandoned buildings, in cars, and some lucky ones get to live in shelters where they are safe from the dangers of the night and also from the harsh elements. These people find themselves in such a situation because they cannot afford to pay for a place to live. This can be caused by a variety of reasons. Economic factors is one of them, where one is unable to get enough money to pay for their house either because they don’t have a job or the money they get at the end of the month is insufficient.
